TEDxWulkan

The TEDxWarsaw Team has put together an impromptu event inspired by the spectacularly disruptive Eyjafjallajokull eruptions, to the theme of “It’s impossible. But doable.” Called TEDxWulkan (Volcano in Polish), the event will be held at Stocznia (”The Shipyard”) which is part think tank, part social hub and part collaborative work space in the heart of Warsaw (map).

We’ve been inspired by the events in Iceland, their influence on our daily lives and by trying to see how our economies and communities might cope with the fallout, but rather than concentrating solely on things to do with volcanoes, we would like to use TEDxWulkan this as an opportunity to look at Explosive Ideas and Impossible Dreams and see how those might actually be accomplished. (Down to the tools and practical ideas.) We will be looking at historical precedents where natural events changed the course of history, new ways of doing business without relying on huge infrastructure, and other aspects of life and work as affected by this huge natural phenomenon.

The event is being organised by the TEDxWarsaw Team (albeit in a reduced skeleton staff kind of way) but this is not a replacement for TEDxWarsaw, nor its next installment. The format is very different from TEDxWarsaw, too. Talks to conversation time ratio will be 1 : 1, with two hours of talks interspread with two hours of breaks. We are creating a much more intimate event (only 100 participants or so) with plenty of opportunity for the speakers and audience to interact. We start at 14:00 on Sunday and finish at 18:00 – short and sweet.

Speakers include Ivan Hernandez, Patrick Trompiz and Pawel Szczęsny whom you know from TEDxWarsaw plus Barbara Jakubek, Michał Marcinkowski, Michał Śliwiński, Tomasz Kolinko, Krzysztof Bielecki and Paweł Urbański.

Tune into the TEDxWulkan live stream, compliments of our friends at StreamOnLine.pl here.
